NIS2 & Cyber Security

In response to increasingly widespread and damaging cyber attacks, the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament adopted the Directive on Security of Network and Information Systems 2.0 (NIS2) in December 2022. This Directive aims to strengthen defence systems, including technical ones, against such incidents.

NIS2 Directive

One of the most significant innovations introduced by the NIS2 Directive is the extension of its applicability to a wide range of sectors. The distinction between Essential Service Operators (ESS) and Digital Service Providers (DSP) has been eliminated, introducing the categories of Essential Entities and Important Entities.

These categories include all entities operating in the Highly Critical Sectors and Other Critical Sectors, as specified in Annexes 1 and 2 of the Directive, and which meet certain size criteria, with some limited exceptions. Among the sectors now included is also that of the Public Administration.
